Latchi

Weather in Latchi

Cyprus is on the edge of Asia, and the country as a whole is one of the hottest destinations in the Mediterranean. The whole country enjoys well over 300 sunny days every year with two thirds of the rain falling during the winter. December through to March tend to be wet rather than cold, although on average you can still expect a fair bit of sunshine. In the summer months temperatures can reach 40 degrees Celsius - something to be aware of if you're planning strenuous activities such as walking or hiking. Generally speaking, Latchi benefits from a sea breeze on very hot days, and heading into the Troodos Mountains will provide further relief from high temperatures.

January-March

The average temperature is around 12 degrees Celsius, although readings can drop to around 7 degrees on cooler days. The sea is still very warm at around 16 degrees Celsius, although this is nothing compared to the height of summer, and around 10cm of rain will fall through the month. On average, you can expect 5-6 hours of sunshine per day. More than half the rain that falls in a year in Cyprus will fall at this time of year.

April-May

Temperatures average around 16-20 degrees Celsius in April but the weather can be slightly unpredictable. Precipitation is less likely, with 2.5cm of rain measured on average through the whole of the month and 9-10 hours of sunshine per day on average. April, May and June are an ideal time to visit Latchi and see the flora and fauna in full bloom as the tourist spots begin to open for the season.

June

The average temperature climbs to 24 Celsius, and the temperature of the sea is roughly the same. Rainfall is rare, with only a few millimetres of rain measured on average, and a full 12 hours of sunshine is normal.

July-August

Typically skies in July and August will be free of any cloud cover whatsoever, making this an incredibly hot time of year. Temperatures peak for the year at an average of 26 Celsius, which means of course it can be hotter - occasionally up to 40 degrees, although in coastal locations such as Latchi you will feel more of a sea breeze and temperatures around 30 degrees are more likely. Swimming at this time of year is wonderful as waters heat to 27 degrees. It is almost certain not to rain in July - any precipitation is likely to be in the form of extremely brief and scattered showers, bringing only a few millimetres through the whole month. You can also expect 11-12 hours of sunshine every day - ideal for sunbathing and beach holidays.

September

The temperature in Latchi begins to fall slightly to an average of 24 Celsius but rain is still very unlikely and you'll still enjoy a very respectable 9-10 hours of sunshine daily. Cypriots consider the last couple of weeks of September to signal the end of 'true' summer, but it is still unlikely you will feel cold, even at night.

October

Despite being the end of the tourist season, the temperature usually remains above 20 degrees Celsius. Around 3cm of rain will fall in October and the sun shines for around 8 hours per day as winter begins to draw in.

November

The weather begins to cool in November with an average temperature reading of 17 degrees Celsius. More than 5cm of precipitation will fall through the course of the month.

December

Temperatures reach a cooler, but still very bearable, 14 degrees Celsius. The sea temperature has dropped to around 17 degrees Celsius when winter sets in. December and January are the wettest months of the year with around 10cm rainfall in each month.
